Economics

Honduras is the poorest country in central america measured by their GDP per capita which is 3,231 USD. Compared to some of the countries nearby it is very low. Guatemala has a GDP per capita of 5,762. Honduras also has a highly unequal distribution of income and high unemployment rates. Approximately 65% of the population lives in poverty and has a highly unstable political system and relies on a very small amount of commodities. The economy is based on agriculture because Honduras's main industry. Some of the major exports of the country are bananas, coffee, beef and timber. Throughout the years Honduras has diversified its exports by adding apparel and automobile parts to its agricultural base. Some Major imports of Honduras include petroleum oils, medicaments, flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel. During the mid 1990’s Honduras struggled with a severe economic crisis the problem was solved later which led to the country being more solvent by the year 1998. The nation is very reliant on the economic status of the United States because the United States is its largest trading partner. The ministry of finance, the Ministry of natural resources and the Ambient management are government departments that deal with the economic matters of honduras. The overall economy of Honduras is not the best because it's the poorest country in central america and inhabits too many people for the economy that the country has.
